Buah Longlong Kedondong

Just as in the previous post, I've been spending my weekend digging holes. The difference is that I got to dig in a different place.

Regarding the chiku tree mentioned earlier, I'm mistaken. It was a Buah long-long tree. I have no idea how it got it's name (it isn't that long). And better yet, when you go to the market to order 'buah long long' juice, as my mum did, it is supposed to be called 'kedong-dong'. (Edit: checked wikipedia, it's buah kedondong)

Here's what happened, the objective was to prepare the tree for moving to our targeted location. The thing is that you can't just uproot a tree, and shove it back down in a hole elsewhere, it'll die. And although it would have been nice to get a big lorry to move the tree together with roots in a huge mound of land, we did not have enough resources to do so.

So we had to reduce the root area of the tree. This was done by digging a circular trench around the area of slightly raised land of the tree, and severing what ever sticks out. The logic behind this is that the raised area would contain more major roots, and by cutting of the less major roots, we would be giving the tree time to adjust to having slightly less roots. (Kinda reminds me how some countries squeeze their citizens except that the tree will get more again). If too much of the tree's roots are severed, it will die of shock, or something.

Changkol swinging was pretty good. Would have been better if able swing it into someone I really dislike without repercussions (for me). Built callus on middle phalange of thumb. Liquid filled, but fortunately didn't burst. Also got a bit of that wrinkly burnt skin farmer look, but just a wee bit. Someone mentioned that it made my arm hairs look less prominent.

After searching for photos of buah kedondong online, it seems that it is mostly shown while still green. The ones I saw were bright orange, but that might just have been influence of heat and bright light. (Yeah, I dislike bright light.)

Maybe I could do a degree in hole digging.
