Business Idea: Photographic Lens Rental

More and more people seem to be taking up photography. Mostly with those big, bulky DSLR type cameras too. I also notice that some people, especially students usually have to save for a while for their camera or camera parts. This means that the add-ons and interchangeables are usually bought one by one.

Yesterday, I overheard a colleague talking about photography, and lenses and all. It was started because some of the people pictures he took had only 1 or 2 clear faces out of a whole group. The lens was blamed. He later went on to explain about the different kind of lenses.

A while back, I also took a module on photography, I used one of the old school digital cameras, and I noticed a few people using the DSLRs. (I got a C for it btw)

I did a quick search for camera lens, and got to some site reviewing cannon lenses. There I just looked at 2 lenses, one was some zoom one (USD $1300), the other, I'm not sure (it costs USD $400). But at least I know that the price range is USD $400 and up.

So the idea here is exactly as the title says, camera lens rental.Take a sum of money, to buy a variety of mid to high-end camera lenses for some popular brand/s, say Cannon or Nikon, then proceed to rent them out.

Maybe the rental charges will depend on the cost of the lens, and there should be some sort of down payment. The money to be made would probably somewhere along the lines of 5 to 10% of the cost of the lens for 3 to 5 days, and maybe a down payment of 40% and some sort of agreement to compensate the shop if the lens is destroyed, damaged etc, of course you'd have to get the renter's details too.

For now nothing's happening. It's just an idea, I don't have enough to start up something like that, not yet anyway.
